About Dr. Ashkenazy
As a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (# 52512) I provide skillful research and evidenced based psychotherapeutic support to a culturally diverse range of individuals, couples, families, and groups.
I hold a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University and a Ph.D. in Humanities with a concentration in philosophy, religion, and spirituality from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). The focus of my published doctoral study research is in feminist views of bereavement. Specifically, my study investigates how mothers experience grief and loss when faced with the death of a child. In addition to my psychotherapy practice with individuals, I facilitate on-line and in-office grief and loss groups for parents. I have successfully completed a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) training through the National Institute of EMDR Therapy Training. Also, I hold a certificate in Traumatic Treatment through the Trauma Center in Brookline Massachusetts, founded by Bessel van der Kolk, MD et.al.
Currently, I serve as an advisory board member of The Compassionate Friends of Marin—a nonprofit bereavement support group for individuals and families. I have volunteered with Marin CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), The Youth Leadership Institute, Marin Services for Women, and Suicide Prevention Services of Marin County.
